Artists

Artists* posses a neat talent. We have the ability to create, form, shape, make—whatever word you want to use—amazing things with whatever we’re given. We take what we have and make it into something wild or beautiful or touching.

Writers have a lot. We have our minds, words, a pen, and some paper (or a computer, depending on the person). But we have so much more than that. We can take absolutely anything we see and use it in a story (yeah, even that piece of garbage blowing across the street). We take some boring things, mix it up with the whirlwind of chaos in our heads, and come up with something like a book or a piece of poetry or a short story or whatever. Just look at all of the amazing works that have been created: Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, The Chronicles of Narnia, Percy Jackson, and ______ (insert your own favorite series). And those are only book series! I haven’t even mentioned all of the individual books or the short stories or the poetry and everything else (yes, even non-fiction).

When painters start out, they have some colorful liquid, a blank canvas, and whatever they want to paint. Yet somehow (I don’t know how they do it—it’s amazing) they manage to make some of the most beautiful images in the world.

Dancers have their bodies and their minds. Yeah, they have some training too, but that won’t help them one bit if they don’t want it to. I’ve seen dancers who have amazing potential toss it all away because they don’t care about dance. They have better things to do. And while there’s nothing wrong with that (as long as they really do have better things to do), it proves my point. If you want to be a beautiful dancer, you have to try.

Art is special and precious. It shows that this world has beauty in it. Artists have a way of accentuating that. They have that talent, and I’m ever so grateful that they exist. Because the “earth” without “art” is just “eh.”

*An artist can be defined as many things, and just about every person has their own opinion of what a real artist is. But I think of artists as writers, photographers, painters, sculptors, dancers, sketchers, singer-songwriters, yes—even you, Miss Stay-At-Home-Mom Who Likes to Create Her Own Little Pieces of Beauty, etc.

Favorite Love Songs

Image(playlist here.)

What I love about Valentine’s Day:
-Candy
-Seeing my parents happily going out on a date.
-Getting Valentines and feeling super-duper special even though everyone else got one almost exactly like it.

What I don’t like about Valentine’s Day:
-It’s not a holiday for single people.
-Me=single. But I’m okay with that. Except on Valentine’s Day.

(But the chocolate makes it all okay.)
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Pros & Cons

So I know most of you won’t get this (unless you do), but I had to make this (because I did).
The said “this” is a Pros and Cons list that I made about one of my absolute favorite book series (The Gallagher Girls Series) by Ally Carter.
The books are about girl spies in training (but you don’t know that. It’s a secret).
For those who do get this (and I think that would mainly be anyone who sees this via Pinterest, because I am planning on pinning this to one of my boards), enjoy. And, Ally, if you ever see this, we all love you.♥ (And, on a more personal note, you were one of the first people who inspired me to start writing. And you still do inspire me. A lot.)
To anyone who thinks the above sentences are cheesy, leave. You have absolutely no idea how much Ally Carter has influenced my writing. No. Idea.

And now for the list! I was inspired to make it by Cammie’s lists, and this one over here.

Listen here.
Sunrise, Sunset (Fiddler on the Roof)

(Tevye)
Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?

(Golde)
I don’t remember growing older
When did they?

(Tevye)
When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he get to be so tall?

(Golde)
Wasn’t it yesterday
When they were small?

(Men)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze

(Women)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

(Tevye)
What words of wisdom can I give them?
How can I help to ease their way?

(Tevye)
Now they must learn from one another
Day by day

(Perchik)
They look so natural together

(Hodel)
Just like two newlyweds should be

(Perchik & Hodel)
Is there a canopy in store for me?

(All)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

Both Sides

I got a Nook for Christmas.
Yeah, I know. Awesome. And not so awesome.
The printed word lovers out there are all going “YOU’VE BETRAYED US! YOU’VE GONE OVER THE THE DARK SIDE! I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU!!”
The electronic lovers are all going “Yippee!” as they read this on their iPad or whatever.
I don’t know whose side I’m on. There are benefits to an actual book. There are benefits to a Nook.
I’ll never ever ever stop reading printed books. There’s something special about books. But Nooks are okay too. They’re just special in a different way.
I like my Nook. The prices are lower, and it comes with its own light.
I like books. I can turn pages and throw it if I get mad (I did that when Dobby died in the Harry Potter series. Don’t judge me, that little elf was awesome).
But which one do I like better? Now that’s an unfair question, especially considering I haven’t even had the Nook for a week yet.
Both are awesome. Neither printed word lovers nor Nook/Kindle/whatever lovers are wrong in their arguments. It all depends on your lifestyle and your own personal opinions.
On the other hand, it doesn’t matter *that* much, does it? You still get to enjoy awesome stories, either way.

The Giver

On Monday, I finished The Giver. I liked it.
My mom has been trying to get me to read that book for years. Finally, I consented (see, I was planning on starting The Lord of the Rings, but my sister is reading it so she gave me The Giver).
It reminded me of all the things I take for granted. I’ve never thought of a life without color, smells, or differences. But most of all, I can’t even imagine a life without love. I couldn’t live without it. People mean too much to me (even though, at times, it doesn’t seem like I do).
Plus, without love, we couldn’t have God. Or, at least, the same God as we have now, because He’s loving. And the thought of no loving God is creepy. And scary. And really, really, depressing.
So there’s a thought for you all today, whether it makes sense or not (even I haven’t finished deciding what I think of the book, but this is what I’ve got so far).

Flyleaf-Again

This song was written by the lead singer of Flyleaf, Lacey, as a song from God to her. It’s beautiful and I love it.
You can find the music video here.
I love the way that your heart breaks
With every injustice and deadly fate
Praying it all will be new
And living like it all depends on you
Here you are down on your knees again
Trying to find air to breathe again
And only surrender will help you now
I love you please see and believe again
Love that you’re never satisfied
With face value wisdom and happy lies
You take what they say and go back and cry
You’re so close to me that you nearly died

Here you are down on your knees again
Trying to find air to breathe again
And only surrender will help you now
I love you please see and believe again

They don’t have to understand you
Be still
Wait and know I understand you
Be still
Be still
Here you are down on your knees again
Trying to find air to breathe again
And only surrender will help you now
The floodgates are breaking and pouring out

Here you are down on your knees
Trying to find air to breathe
Right where I want you to be again
I love you please see and believe again

Here you are down on your knees again
Trying to find air to breathe again
Right where I want you to be again
See and believe!
